Compress images in PowerPoint
Description
Large presentations take up a lot of space, are slower, and are harder to share. A simple way to reduce file size is to compress the images within it.
Instructions
When Powerpoint presentations are heavy, they take up a lot of space on your computer and are harder to share with other users. Additionally, there is a risk that the presentation will slow down, which can result in consequences such as possible animation glitches.
An easy solution to reduce file size is to compress the images in it. You can compress all images in the file or select specific images.
Keep in mind that you can only compress images, not increase resolution. If you regret compressing an image, you will need to insert it again to get it back in higher resolution. A tip is to save a copy of your presentation before compressing the images, to ensure that you can always revert to the original images.
- Select the image you want to compress.
- When you have selected an image, the menu Picture Format will appear. Under that menu, you will find the button Compress image. Click on it.
- A variety of options for compressing the image will appear. By default, the option Apply only to this picture is selected. If you uncheck the option, all images in the presentation will be compressed. Leaving the option selected means the changes will only be applied to the image you selected.
- Select the resolution for the image/images. We recommend a resolution of 150 ppi for most presentations. This resolution maintains high image quality while keeping file size relatively low.
- You can also choose to Delete cropped areas of pictures if you are satisfied with how you have cropped all your images. This also reduces the file size.
- Once you have finished adjusting the settings to reduce the file size of your presentation, click Ok.
