Compress images in Word
Description
Join the presentation on how to compress the images in your Word document to reduce its file size.
Instructions
When Word documents are heavy, they take up a lot of space on your computer and are more difficult to share with other users. One simple way to reduce the file size is to compress the images in the document. You can compress all the images in the file, or select specific images.
Please keep in mind that you can only compress images, not increase the resolution. If you regret compressing an image, you will need to reinsert it to restore it to higher resolution. It is advisable to save a copy of your document before compressing the images, to ensure that you can revert to the file with the original images.
- Select the image you want to compress by clicking on it.
- Once you have selected an image, the Picture format tab will appear at the far right of the menu. Click on this option.
- You will see the menu for Picture format at the top of the page. In the section labelled Adjust (top right), you will find the Compress Pictures button. Click on it.
- In the window that appears, you will see different options for the image resolution. We recommend a resolution of 150 ppi for most documents. This resolution maintains a high quality of the images while keeping the file size relatively low.
- By default, the option Apply only to this picture is selected. If you uncheck this option, all images in the document will be compressed. If you leave the option selected, the changes will only be applied to the image you selected. You can also choose to Delete cropped areas of pictures if you are satisfied with how you have cropped all your images. This will also reduce the file size.
- Once you have finished configuring the settings to reduce the file size of your presentation, click OK.
