Create an accessible tagged pdf

Maintain the accessibility of your document when exporting it to a PDF. Keep the heading structure, alternative text, and labeling of lists, tables, and language.
Instructions
When exporting a Word document to a pdf, the goal is to do it in such a way that the accessibility of the document is maintained. This includes the heading structure, alternative text for images, and markup that identifies lists, tables, or the document language.
- Click on the File tab in the menu.
- Select the option Save as.
- Click on More options.
- Select the format pdf from the list.
- Make sure the checkbox Standard (publishing online and printing) is checked.
- Check the box: Create bookmarks using Headings.
- Check the box: Document properties.
- Check the box: Document structure tags for accessibility.
- If special fonts are used: Uncheck the box Bitmap text when fonts may not be embedded.
- Press Ok.
- Press Save.
Tip!
Don't print to pdf! This method of creating a pdf does not preserve the document's accessibility.
