Ensure correct tag structure and reading order - part 1

Light

Description

The tag structure determines the order in which the content of a PDF is presented to assistive technologies, while the reading order determines the sequence in which screen readers read the content out loud.

Instructions

The tag structure in a PDF describes the logical structure of the content – such as headings, lists, and tables – while the reading order controls in which sequence the content is read by assistive technology. For a PDF to be classified as accessible, the tag structure and reading order must match.

  1. To find the PDF’s tag structure and reading order, click on Accessibility tags/Tags to display the document’s tag structure.
  2. The tags control how screen readers and other assistive tools interpret and present the content in the PDF.
  3. They also help define: headings (H1-H6), lists (L), tables (Table), figures (Figure), and paragraphs (P).
  4. Click on a label to place yourself in a tag.
  5. The element included in the tag will then be highlighted with a pink outline.
  6. You can use the up arrow and down arrow to scroll through the tags.
