Ensure correct tag structure and reading order - part 1
Light
Description
The tag structure determines the order in which the content of a PDF is presented to assistive technologies, while the reading order determines the sequence in which screen readers read the content out loud.
Instructions
The tag structure in a PDF describes the logical structure of the content – such as headings, lists, and tables – while the reading order controls in which sequence the content is read by assistive technology. For a PDF to be classified as accessible, the tag structure and reading order must match.
- To find the PDF’s tag structure and reading order, click on Accessibility tags/Tags to display the document’s tag structure.
- The tags control how screen readers and other assistive tools interpret and present the content in the PDF.
- They also help define: headings (H1-H6), lists (L), tables (Table), figures (Figure), and paragraphs (P).
- Click on a label to place yourself in a tag.
- The element included in the tag will then be highlighted with a pink outline.
- You can use the up arrow and down arrow to scroll through the tags.
