Insert images in logical order for user-friendliness
Description
When inserting images or other objects in Word documents, it is important that they are placed in a logical reading order for people using screen reading tools.
Instructions
When inserting images or other objects in a Word document, it is important that they are placed in a logical reading order for people using screen reading tools.
- Select the image you want to change the reading order for.
- An anchor icon will appear on the page. This shows where the image is positioned in the reading order.
- Grab and drag the anchor icon to the paragraph the image should come after.
- Click on the Layout Options/Layout Options button that appears when the image is selected.
- Choose See more/Show More, at the bottom right.
- Check the box for Lock anchor. A locked anchor prevents objects from being moved around.
- When the anchor is locked, a yellow padlock will appear next to it.
Tip!
To ensure that the content in your Word document is presented in a logical order, it is good practice to insert objects, such as images, with the setting "In Line with Text". This places the object in its own paragraph and will be read out at that point in the document. When the object is not in line with text, you need to specify the order in which it will be read.
